A Walland woman was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on East Lamar Alexander Parkway, police said.
Brittany Atkins, 30, Rocky Branch Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 3:19 a.m. near Gateway Road.
Atkins was driving a Kia Sorento south on Gateway Road when she turned onto East Lamar Alexander Parkway, said Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp.
She pulled into the path of a westbound Toyota Tacoma pickup traveling in the right hand lane of East Lamar Alexander Parkway and a collision occurred, Crisp said.
The truck, driven by Chad Webb, 37, Cedar Creek Road, Townsend, flipped onto its side and came to rest after sliding across the roadway.
Atkins’ vehicle went off the south side of the road and struck an embankment and utility pole before coming to rest, Crisp said.
Both Atkins and her passenger, her husband Christopher Atkins, 33, also of Rocky Branch Road, were wearing seat belts, police said.
Christopher Atkins was taken by ambulance to Blount Memorial Hospital, where he was transferred to University of Tennessee Medical Center. Crisp said he was in critical condition Saturday evening.
Webb was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital, where hospital staff said he was treated and released.
Police said no citations were issued and the investigation is ongoing. The Maryville Fire Department also responded.
