LaPlace, LA : 63-year-old man was hit and killed by car Saturday October 4th 2014.
Louisiana State Police say a 63-year-old man walking in U.S. 61 at night was hit and killed by a car in LaPlace.
Trooper Melissa Matey says David Curtis of LaPlace was walking north about 9 p.m. Saturday and was hit by a 2012 Chevrolet Impala heading the same direction.
She says the driver submitted to a routine blood test but investigators don't think impairment and speed were factors.
Matey says troopers urge both drivers and pedestrians to pay close attention to their surroundings on roadways. She notes that state law requires pedestrians to use sidewalks when available or to walk on the left shoulder, so they're facing traffic, and are as far from traffic as possible.
