A woman died early Wednesday morning when her vehicle ran off an Ocklawaha-area road, went airborne and struck a tree.

Susan Michele Ross, 49, of Belleview, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Marion County Fire Rescue paramedic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, Ross was driving a 2005 Nissan south on Southeast 180th Avenue and, just south of Southeast 86th Street, ran off the road.

The vehicle went into a ditch, struck a concrete culvert, went airborne and struck a medium-sized tree, officials said. The vehicle landed on its roof.

Ross, who was not wearing a seat belt, died in the vehicle, which was roughly 300 feet from Southeast 86th Street. Troopers said they don't know why Ross' vehicle went off the road.
