Dover, DE : Bicyclist killed in North Dupont Highway collision early Saturday morning, July 2, 2016

Dover police are investigating an early morning collision that resulted in the death of one man.

Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the crash took place at about 3:42 a.m. Saturday, July 2 at the intersection of North Dupont Highway and West Denney’s Road.

The police probe indicated a bicyclist, identified as Tobby Ayers, 47, was riding in the left turn lane of the northbound side of North Dupont Highway. At the same time 2002 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling in the southbound lane approaching West Denney’s Road.

Ayers apparently made a left turn against a red light and crossed directly into the path of the Malibu, Hoffman said.

Ayers was hit and died as a result of his injuries.

Hoffman said Ayers may have been intoxicated and that alcohol use may have been a factor in the crash.

The 32-year-old driver of the Malibu is not facing charges at this time, Hoffman said.
