Fairfield,CA : Driver involved in deadly Suisun Valley crash on April, wednesday 26th 2017
A 68-year-old Fairfield man whose driving caused the 2015 death of a father of two was sentenced Wednesday to what amounts to two weeks in jail along with 60 days of house arrest.
David L. Beyer pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge.
Judge Carlos R. Gutierrez also ordered Beyer to pay a $1,000 fine and to perform 30 hours of community service.
Beyer was driving his 1997 Nissan Frontier truck on the afternoon of June 7, 2015. He was traveling with his wife southbound on Suisun Valley Road when he tried to make a left turn onto Mankas Corner Road.
Craig C. Bock, 32, was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson Sportster northbound on Suisun Valley Road. Witnesses later said Bock tried to swerve to avoid hitting Beyer’s truck, but crashed into the truck that had cut him off. Bock died at the crash scene.
Several of Bock’s family members and his fiancee spoke at the sentencing. Some of them wanted Beyer to spend more time behind bars. The prosecutor handling the case had urged Gutierrez to sentence Beyer to six months in jail. Instead, Gutierrez gave Beyer 30 days. With credit for good behavior, Beyer will be released after 14 days.
Bock’s fiancee cried as she tried to tell Gutierrez about her grieving and loss and the loss to their two young children.
Another family member described Bock’s role as the co-owner and operator of the Twin Sisters Gun Club in the north end of Green Valley at the time of his death.
Bock’s uncle said the family business is going to be gone because Bock is gone. The uncle said the family business was being targeted by county officials since Bock’s death.
Bock was a graduate of Armijo High School and then served in the U.S. Army for five years with tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Beyer’s attorney, Stacy Barrett, pointed out that Beyer was also a veteran, having served in Vietnam.
