Hillsborough County, FL : Interstate-75 traffic wreck that seriously injured a semi-trailer truck driver on Thursday afternoon September 18th 2014
An interstate traffic wreck that seriously injured a semi-trailer truck driver Thursday afternoon also involved two Venice residents, but neither were injured in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Warren and Margaret Sisson, of Venice, escaped the Hillsborough County crash unscathed. Andre Whitehead, 43, of St. Petersburg, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa for treatment.
The wreck occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 shortly after 3 p.m. FHP troopers reported that the right side of Whitehead's truck collided with the left side of the Sissons' Audi when the trucker was changing lanes.
Whitehead overcorrected, lost control of his vehicle and the tractor trailer overturned onto its side. The vehicle traveled across the inside lane, left the roadway and came to rest in the center median. The tanker was full of used vegetable oil that was to be converted into biodiesel fuel.
The Sissons' vehicle rotated counter-clockwise twice and came to a controlled stop in the inside southbound lane.
Whitehead was ticketed for an improper change of lane.
