Warrenton,Vi : Manassas resident dies after bicycle accident on June, Wednesday 21th 2017
A Manassas man died Saturday of injuries he suffered in a bicycle accident last week.
Manassas police responded to reports of a bicycle accident at the intersection of Godwin Drive and Ashton Avenue just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, Manassas police spokesman Charles Sharp said in a news release.
Police determined that the bicyclist struck the back of an SUV, which was stopped at the traffic light, Sharp said.
The bicyclist, later identified as Thomas Jefferson Grizzard Jr., was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Grizzard, 70, of Manassas, died of his injuries Saturday, June 24, police said.
Grizzard was a longtime Manassas resident and a member of the city’s utility commission.
Grizzard was also a professor emeritus at Virginia Tech. He served as the director of the university’s Occoquan Watershed Monitoring Laboratory in Manassas for 40 years until his retirement in 2014, according to the Virginia Tech.
