Longmont, CO : Woman, 85, dies from injuries sustained in Longmont crash on April, Friday 7th 2017
An 85-year-old Longmont woman died in the hospital early Friday morning from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Pace Street and Third Avenue on Thursday afternoon.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office has identified the woman as Janet Robinson, and the office announced in a press release that her cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.
Longmont police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur said that Robinson was the passenger in a gray 2013 Honda Accord driven by her 86-year-old husband that was heading eastbound on Third Avenue about 1:45 p.m.
Satur said the Honda turned left to go north on Pace Street when it was struck broadside by a blue 2001 Mitsubishi Montero traveling westbound on Third Avenue.
The Mitsubishi was occupied by a 49-year-old female driver from Longmont and 47-year-old female passenger from Kit Carson, who suffered a compound fracture of her right arm that bled significantly, he said.
Satur said Officer Jerry Carnes bound the woman's arm with a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
"All drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts," he said. "Alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors."
Robinson was pronounced dead at Longmont United Hospital about 2 a.m. Friday, Satur said. He also said her husband was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Police have not released the names of the other people involved in the crash.
Police are requesting witnesses to the crash call Officer Dawn Koehler at 303-774-4320.
Satur said he knows of at least one other fatal crash at the intersection, along with several other non-fatal crashes.
"They tend to be serious right there because the speeds are higher," he said.
