Topeka,KS : KHP identifies man killed in two-vehicle crash on K-4 highway on December, Tuesday 5th 2017
The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the fatality victim of Tuesday’s crash on K-4 highway as Thomas E. Prescott of Topeka.
Prescott, 67, died after the head-on collision at K-4 and N.E. 31st St.
The accident was reported at 4:41 p.m. Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Adam Winters said the driver of a blue Ford Explorer was southbound on K-4, approaching the intersection of N.E. 31st St.
Two cars were stopped at the intersection waiting to turn, so the Explorer, driven by 37-year-old Henry Carey Jr. according to KHP crash logs, shifted to the northbound lane to pass them. He collided head-on with Prescott’s blue Hyundai, which was traveling north, Winters said.
Carey indicated he switched lanes to avoid a rear-end collision with the slower vehicles, according to the KHP crash logs. He was transported by ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital with minor injuries.
Winters said there were no passengers in either car.
Emergency crews blocked K-4 highway from 39th St. to the south, although people living in the neighborhood were allowed through. They were still working at the accident scene about 6:30 p.m., and the road was re-opened later that night.
