Mills County, IA : Council Bluffs man died and two other people injured in a head-on crash on Highway 34 near Hastings on Saturday evening, April 30, 2016
A Council Bluffs man died and two other people were injured in a head-on crash Saturday evening on U.S. Highway 34 just east of 370th Street in Mills County.
Ismail Mulondo, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to statement from the Iowa State Patrol. May Mulondo, 24, of Council Bluffs, and Madison Huff, 19, of Red Oak, were taken to Omaha hospitals with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening.
Investigators determined that Ismail Mulondo was traveling east on Highway 34, just east of 370th Street, about 5:40 p.m. when his 1995 Chevrolet Suburban crossed the center line of the road for an unknown reason. The vehicle collided with a Ford F-350 pickup driven by Anthony Clark, 22, of Glenwood.
Clark, who was not injured, told investigators that he swerved into the eastbound lane to try to avoid a collision, but Ismail Mulondo then swerved back into the same lane. The vehicles collided.
May Mulondo, who was a passenger in the Suburban, was taken to Creighton University Medical Center by an ambulance crew from Malvern. Huff, who was riding in pickup, was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center by a Glenwood unit.
Investigators said Ismail Mulondo was wearing a seat belt but didn’t indicate if the others were restrained.
The Mills County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
