Lake County, IL : Wrong way driver dies in Toll Road accident on Friday, 24th May 2019
A LaPorte County man driving the wrong way on the Indiana Toll Road in Lake County died early this morning after his vehicle collided with a semi, the Indiana State Police said.
The victim was identified as Kevin Galloway, 50.
According to police, at 4:45 a.m. Galloway was westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Toll Road when, at the approximately the 17.5 mile marker, his 2018 Toyota Avalon collided with a semi-tractor trailer.
Police said that Galloway’s Toyota traveled across all lanes of traffic, then struck the center barrier wall, where it came to rest. Galloway was pronounced dead at the scene.
The operator of the semi was identified as Ernest Sasak, 60, of Tustin, Mich. Police noted that the crash occurred just after an eastbound semi succeeded in swerving to the left to avoid hitting Galloway’s westbound Toyota.
The center and left lane of the eastbound Toll Road were closed until 9:45 a.m. today.
“This is an ongoing investigation an autopsy and toxicology results are pending,” police said.
