Greeley, CO : Johnstown couple dies in single-vehicle crash near Loveland on Friday, 16th September 2016
Two northern Colorado teachers who called Johnstown home died this past weekend in a rollover crash near Loveland.
Jared Sommervold, a Longmont High School science teacher, and his wife, Genevieve Sommervold, 30, were killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night on Interstate 25, just south of the interchange with U.S. 34, which is about 5 miles west of Greeley, according to St. Vrain Valley School District Spokesman Damon Brown and the Larimer County Coroner.
“Mr. Sommervold was a beloved teacher and coach at Longmont High,” read an email sent out to parents on Saturday. “He made a considerable impact on many students and staff in his five year tenure.”
Jared Sommervold taught science and held degrees in kinesiology and physics education from the University of Colorado and Western Governors University.
The email said students will be notified this morning, and counselors and a trauma response team will be available throughout the day to help students and staff cope with the loss.
Colorado State Trooper Alisha Danko said the Sommervolds, both of Johnstown, died at the scene of the crash near mile marker 256 of I-25, shortly before 9:30 p.m.
