An Immokalee man suffered serious injuries Saturday in a three-vehicle crash in Collier County, state police said.
Tomas F. Mateo, 44, was a passenger in a 2002 Toyota Sienna that Juana Andres was driving north on State Road 29. Andres, 48, of Immokalee, was in the left turn lane approaching State Road 82 at 9 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Elena Marroquin, 31, of Lehigh Acres, was driving south on State Road 29, approaching State Road 82. Nicolas Diaz Montejo, 53, of Immoklalee was stopped along State Road 82 in the turn lane for eastbound traffic, waiting to merge onto State Road 29.
Andres tried to make a left turn onto State Road 82 but misjudged the approaching Marroquin in her 2006 Dodge Caravan, which clipped the right front of Andres' Toyota, FHP reported. The impact caused both vehicles to rotate counterclockwise, and Andres' Toyota hit the left side of Montejo's vehicle.
Marroquin's minivan caught fire, which firefighters extinguished.
Mateo went to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers for treatment of injuries he suffered, police said.
