CHARLESTON, SC : 2 minors detained after crash downtown in car reported stolen on Tuesday, 17th November, 2020

Investigators have arrested two teenagers after a stolen car crashed into the stairs of the Charleston post office following a chase which led to the discovery of two guns Tuesday morning.
The suspects have been identified as 16-year-old and 17-year-old boys who have both been charged with unlawful carry of a handgun, possession of a handgun under the age of 18 and possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number, according to Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis.
The 16-year-old was also charged with failure to stop for blue lights, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and larceny under $2,000.
The incident started at 4:20 a.m. when a police officer was driving on Meeting Street and saw a Chrysler 200 in front of him with its taillights out. The officer then attempted to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Meeting Street and Cumberland Street where the suspect’s vehicle had stopped.
According to a report, as the officer approached the car, the suspects’ vehicle sped off.
