Monroe,MI : One person injured in car vs. train crash on January, Thursday 4th 2018

One person was injured in a car vs. train accident about 2:45 p.m. today at the railroad tracks on E. Elm Ave. near N. Dixie Highway.

Monroe Police Department, which is investigating the crash, reported that the injured person was the vehicle driver. The injuries are “non-life threatening,” and the motorist was taken to ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital by Monroe Community Ambulance.

According to reports, the driver was southbound on N. Dixie Highway, then turned left onto eastbound E. Elm Ave., “disregarding the activated railroad crossing gate and signals.”

As a result, the car was struck broadside by the oncoming northbound train; and was pushed along the tracks until the train was able to stop.

Monroe Fire Department also responded to the scene.
