A woman was killed in a car accident in Belleville Friday night.

According to Belleville police, witnesses said Alicia E. McClain, 27, was driving a 2005 Pontiac east on Illinois Route 15 in the right lane.

The car suddenly veered off to the right, striking a tree in the 3700 block of Route 15 near Belleville West Parkway about 6:30 p.m., police said. McClain was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department is investigating.
