Chico, CA : Man arrested for DUI after crashing into bridge on Pine Street early Sunday morning, May 8, 2016
Police arrested a Chico man on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing injury after he crashed into a bridge on Pine Street early Sunday morning.
At around 12:46 a.m., Chico police received reports of a single-vehicle crash at the bridge over Little Chico Creek at Pine Street. Butte County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash and gave aid to a female passenger who was found lying on the ground next to a vehicle.
Vehicle driver Spender Meadows, 25, was found in the vehicle along with an additional uninjured female passenger. Police say that Meadows drove the vehicle off the road as he approached the bridge and drove head-on into the cement bridge railing.
The injured female passenger was taken to Enloe Medical Center where she was in stable condition, and was found to have several fractured ribs as well as neck and back pain.
After police conducted a DUI investigation, Meadows was arrested. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was brought to Enloe Medical Center where he was admitted and released to the custody of hospital staff.
Officers will request charges against Meadows for felony DUI causing injury.
