Canby man's death in car accident sparks Clackamas County investigation

Police are investigating the death of 19-year-old Canby man, who died as a result of injuries sustained in a single-car accident Friday night.

Daniel Gonzalez, a passenger in the front seat of a vehicle that struck a power pole on the passenger side, was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Emanuel Hospital, where he later died.Police suspect that alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

A passenger initially reported that a vehicle crashed into a power pole near the 25100 block of Oregon 170 outside the city of Canby. The vehicle struck the pole with enough force to break it and knock it to the ground, police said.All three of the vehicle’s occupants suffered injuries. The driver, a 17-year-old man, and the back-seat passenger, a 15-year-old male, were taken by ambulance to OHSU for treatment.

Responding deputies reported signs of alcohol use by the driver and initiatived an investigation for driving under the influence of intoxicants. The investigation is continuing.
