Arlington, MA : Several snow-related accidents on Jan. 7 on Monday, January 9th 2017
The following are excerpts from the Belmont police log as made available by the Belmont Police Department. The log is public and available for review. All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
Tuesday, Jan. 3
2:42 p.m.: Stewart Terrace resident reported she noticed weird things happening in early December. Her home phone suddenly wasn't working properly. She found out it was placed on call forwarding to an unknown number. She then received a message on her machine from American Airlines informing her connecting flight from Florida to Milwaukee was delayed. Just before Christmas, she received a phone call from Capital One asking about a purchase she made on Stub Hub. She hasn't used card in about a year, but discovered a $9,000 balance. It appeared someone was making payments. She was told the account would be cancelled, received another call a week later telling her charges were still being made in Florida, balance was now $32,000. The account was closed permanently. She notified credit bureau of fraud, they put alert on her account. She received a call from America Express asking if she attempted to open an account online, which she did not. Officers advised her to speak with someone at social security and to run another credit check on herself.
2:57 p.m.: Collision between 2005 Volkswagen operated by a Belmont man and female bicyclist from Watertown in area of Grove Street and Park Road near Fairview Avenue. Bicyclist was laying on sidewalk and being treated by Belmont Fire and Rescue. She was conscious and alert, had bleeding laceration to face and was transported to Beth Israel. Operator of Volkswagen said he was waiting to make a left turn onto Grove Street and didn't see any cars coming. When he pulled out onto Grove Street, collided with bicyclist. He did not see her. Bicyclist said she thought the vehicle would remain stopped. She was not wearing a helmet. Operator of Volkswagen issued citation for failure to yield right of way.
7:21 p.m.: Officers issued criminal complaint against Watertown woman operating vehicle with suspended registration.
Wednesday, Jan. 4
10:47 a.m.: Dalton Road resident reported larceny of package from her front porch. She ordered cell phone from Amazon on Dec. 20, an LG G4 Smartphone. She received an e-mail stating it was delivered Dec. 23. She never received it and believes it was stolen off her porch, valued at $249.
6:18 p.m.: Stewart Terrace resident reported attempted fraud. He is the treasurer of the Lion's Club, received two suspicious e-mails. The first was from Noahspaer@aol.com with a name of another member of Lion's club asking to initiate a bank transfer. The Lion's Club member said he did not send the e-mail and it was not his e-mail address. The second e-mail was from ingo.buehler@online.de stating invoice was generated for his account, zip file attached. He did not open the file and had no idea who the sender was. He did not respond to either e-mail but wanted to report suspicious activity.
7:37 p.m.: Officers issued criminal complaint against a Wrentham man for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, speeding and no inspection sticker.
Friday, Jan. 6
7:29 a.m.: 2003 Toyota operated by a Belmont man collided into a stop sign in area of School and Washington Streets. Due to snow and ice on roads, vehicle slid. Vehicle towed from the scene, stop sign damaged with impact.
7:30 a.m.: Single car collision in area of Grove Street near intersection with Huron Avenue. 2001 Honda operated by a Watertown man hit stone wall, spun around. Road conditions were icy.
9:23 a.m.: 2016 Chevy operated by a Lexington woman collided into a rock at Rock Meadow driveway. Car slid in snow. Operator was injured, transported to Mount Auburn Hospital, vehicle towed from the scene.
12 a.m.: New Hampshire resident reported break-in. A few days ago, she received a call from her tenant who resides on the second floor of her property on Beech Street. On Dec. 28, she left her home at 9 a.m. When she returned the following day at 11 a.m., found front door damaged by force. There was nothing found missing and a second upstairs door was locked. Entry to an attic bedroom may have been gained. Extensive damage to door, door lock and door frame. Downstairs tenant did not remember hearing anything during the time this may have taken place.
4:44 p.m.: Beech Street resident reported property damage. At 8 a.m., discovered his metal trash cans tossed into his yard. Bushes on front of property struck and toppled over. Scrapes and black marks left on metal lamppost of street light in front of his property. Lamp cover fell from impact and shattered on side of road. Light department responded to inspect.
4:58 p.m.: Officers issued a criminal complaint against a Chelsea man for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and crosswalk violation.
Saturday, Jan. 7
2:47 p.m.: Three-car collision in area of Concord Avenue and Pleasant Street between 2015 Infiniti operated by a Boston man, 2005 Toyota operated by a Waltham man, and a 2001 Subaru operated by a Westwood man. As the Infiniti was coming down the hill of Concord Avenue, it slid through traffic light at intersection of Pleasant and Concord causing him to strike the rear of the Subaru that was travelling on Pleasant Street, then it continued sliding and struck the front right of the Toyota sitting parked at intersection of Concord Avenue and Pleasant Street. Infiniti towed from the scene.
4:21 p.m.: Two-car collision at intersection of Elm and School Streets between 2008 Pontiac operated by a Belmont woman and a 2015 Hyundai operated by a Belmont man. Pontiac slid through the intersection when she attempted to step on her brakes at stop sign, sustained major front-end damage, towed from scene. Hyundai went into a tree, also towed. Owner of tree notified of tree damage.
4:48 p.m.: Two-car collision in area of Brookside Avenue and Lorimer Road between 2014 Ford operated by a Belmont man and 1997 John Deere back hoe operated by a Belmont man. Operator of backhoe did not hear the horn of the other motor vehicle warning him. He was issued a citation for failure to use care when backing.
