Fayetteville, NC : Retired police sergeant killed by a hit and run driver on U.S. 301 South on Thursday nightf, December 3, 2015

Authorities are still searching for the man behind a hit-and-run wreck that killed a former Fayetteville police sergeant Thursday night.

The man drove a 1999 green Chevrolet Monte Carlo when the collision happened on a service road off U.S. 301 South.

No further description of the driver, who fled the scene, was available, said Trooper Sean Johnson.

"Witnesses heard the wreck and went outside immediately," Johnson said. "They said the driver stayed around for a few minutes before walking north on Marracco Drive. They tried to tell him to stay at the scene."

The Highway Patrol identified the deceased as Thomas Curtis Glascock, 55, of Hope Mills. He was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Johnson said.

Glascock worked at the department for 21 years.

At 10:48 p.m., Glascock was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Marracco Drive. As he reached the Chickenfoot Road intersection, the driver of the Chevrolet - traveling northbound - turned left, hitting Glascock.

The wreck disabled the Chevrolet, which is in the process of being seized by the Highway Patrol, Johnson said.
