Elkton, MD : Driver killed in a T-bone collision on Telegraph Road near Blue Ball Road, north of Elkton on Monday night, August 18, 2014
A man was killed on Monday night when the car he was driving on an Elkton-area highway cut into the path of a tow truck, causing a T-bone collision, according to Maryland State Police.
The fatal crash occurred about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Telegraph Road (Route 273) and Blue Ball Road, north of Elkton.
As of 7:45 p.m. Monday, investigators were withholding the name of the victim because they hadn't located his next-of-kin to notify them that their relative had been killed, police said.
Because of the ongoing investigation, they also declined to identify the tow truck driver, who was able to walk away from the accident and then refused medical treatment, police added.
The victim was driving a Ford Taurus in the southbound lane of Blue Ball Road when he reached the intersection and attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Telegraph Road, MSP Tfc. Joseph Coudon, lead investigator, reported from the crash scene.
At that point, the car went into the path of the tow truck, which was traveling westbound on Telegraph Road, he said. The tow truck plowed into the driver's side of the car, Coudon added.
An MSP accident reconstruction team was dispatched to the scene, as was a state agent who investigates crashes involving commercial vehicles, such as the tow truck, according to police.
The fatal crash forced emergency workers to shut down Telegraph Road from Dr. Miller Road, west of the accident scene, to Blue Ball Road, a short distance east of it, for more than 90 minutes.
