Opelousas, LA : Teen pedestrian killed in St. Landry crash on Friday night, April 7, 2017

A 17-year-old Opelousas boy was killed Friday night after being hit by a truck on LA 104 near St. James Avenue.

According to a release from the Louisiana State Police, troopers began investigating the report of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian around 10:50 p.m. Friday on LA 104. The initial investigation revealed that the victim, identified as 17-year-old Brandon Viator of Opelousas, was walking west on LA 104 on the right shoulder when he was struck by a westbound 2012 Dodge Ram driven by Bryant Joubert, 41, of Blanks.

The St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Viator dead on the scene. Joubert was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.


Joubert voluntarily submitted to a chemical test and was not impaired, the release states, and toxicology samples from Viator are awaiting analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
