SURPRISE, AZ : 90-year-old man hit, killed by driver in Surprise neighborhood on Saturday, 20th April 2024

A man is dead after he was hit by a driver in a Surprise neighborhood on Saturday morning.

It happened after 8 a.m. on North Verde Vista Drive at Hern Road, which is northwest of Cotton Lane and Waddell Road. The victim was later identified as 90-year-old Joseph Akiki.

North Verde Vista Drive was closed in both directions as crews worked to clear the crash.

No citations have been issued but police say the investigation is ongoing.
