Mansfield, OH : Three people seriously injured in high-speed collision on South Main Street on Sunday, Aug 23, 2015
Three people sustained serious injuries in a high-speed, head-on collision on South Main Street on Sunday.
The male driver of a white pickup truck was traveling northbound from Ohio 13 onto South Main Street at a high rate of speed about 8 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a silver Kia Sportage, said Assistant Chief Mark Sieving, of the Mansfield Fire Department.
A crash reconstructionist was called to investigate, but Sieving said only a very high rate of speed could have caused the level of damage the Sportage sustained.
Upon impact, the pickup truck driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken from the scene in critical condition.
A toolbox that witnesses said was thrown from his vehicle struck the porch of a home at 532 S. Main St., where a woman was seated. She was uninjured but was shaken by the incident, a family member said.
A male passenger in the pickup truck and the female driver of the Sportage both were trapped after the crash and were extricated and taken to OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital with serious injuries.
Police are considering alcohol as a possible factor in the crash, which remained under investigation Sunday evening.
