South River, NJ : 1 killed, 3 hurt in head-on crash between SUV, NJ Transit bus on Wednesday, 12th June 2019

The driver of an SUV was killed and three passengers on a commuter bus were injured when the vehicles collided head-on Tuesday in South River, authorities said.

The SUV was traveling south on Old Bridge Turnpike at 3:18 p.m. when it collided with the northbound bus as the SUV’s driver tried to make a left onto Leonardine Avenue, South River police said Wednesday.

Emergency workers brought the 75-year-old South River man driving the SUV to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead early Wednesday. His identity has not been released.The impact of the crash also caused the bus to strike a house on Old Bridge Turnpike, official said. The Academy bus was operating a local route in Middlesex County, a spokesman for the private bus carrier said. The three injuries to the bus passengers were minor.
