MOOREFIELD, WV : One killed, two injured in Hardy County crash on Sunday, 26th January, 2020

One person was killed and two others flown by medical helicopters for treatment when a truck and passenger vehicle crashed Sunday at daybreak on state Route 259 near Baker, according to the Hardy County Sheriff's Office.

The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.

The identities of the driver of a passenger vehicle and its one occupant were also not available. Both were flown to a hospital by Air Care and HealthNet helicopters, according to the sheriff's office.

First-responders performed extensive extrication after being dispatched to the scene by the Hardy County 911 emergency center. The roadway was closed for nearly three hours following the crash that occurred at 6:56 a.m. nearly two miles south of Baker.

Units responding to the scene included the Hardy County Ambulance Authority, the Mathias-Baker and Capon Valley volunteer fire departments and Hardy County Medical Examiner Charles King.

The accident remains under investigation.
