DeLand, FL : Port Orange man dies in rollover crash on I-4 in Volusia County on Saturday morning, February 6, 2016
A 29-year-old Port Orange man was killed early Saturday when he was thrown from his car in a rollover crash on eastbound Interstate 4, troopers said.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the man was driving a 2015 four-door Mercedes at a high rate of speed in the left lane of eastbound I-4 near mile marker 31 at about 5:45 a.m.
That's when a 2001 Chevrolet SUV in the right lane, driven by Delzie Kimbel, 42, of Apopka, tried to move to the left lane.
The left side of the Chevy collided with the right side of the Mercedes, troopers said. Both vehicles overturned, and the man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected through the Mercedes' sunroof, FHP said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified pending next of kin notification.
Both Kimbel and a passenger in the Chevy, Robert Crosby, 29, of Plymouth, were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries.
The Mercedes' passenger, Abdallah bin Ishaq, 31, of Daytona Beach, was wearing a seat belt and taken to Halifax Health Medical Center for minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
