Hutchinson, KS : Four children among five dead after semi, minivan crash in Ford County on Saturday, February 18, 2017
Five people, including four children, were killed after the minivan they were riding in Saturday was hit head-on by a semi in Ford County.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report, Gregory A. Botwinik, 41, Osawatomie, was driving a 2011 semi-tractor east on U.S. 50, when he was passing another semi driven by Terrence Sumlin, 57, Merrillville, Indiana, and struck a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country minivan head-on.
The driver of the minivan, Anakary Romero, 29, and her passengers, Edward Reynaga, 12, Emily Reynaga, 7, and Edwin Reynaga, 21 months, all of Dodge City, were taken to Western Plains Regional Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
The other passenger, Evelyn Reynaga, 5, Dodge City, was transported to the hospital with incapacitating injuries. She was later transported to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, where she died Sunday.
Botwinik was sent to Western Plains Regional with possible injuries. Sumlin was not injured.
The crash occurred 10 miles east of Dodge City after 8 p.m.
It was unknown if anyone in the minivan was wearing their proper safety restraints. Sumlin and Botwinik were.
