Southport, NC : Kure Beach woman died in Fatal head-on collision on NC 211 in Southport on Monday morning, May 11, 2015

A Kure Beach woman on her way to Brunswick Community College Monday morning was killed in a head-on collision.
The Highway Patrol says Joanne van der Kuijl, 57, was traveling west on NC 211 in Southport around 7:25 a.m. when she crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a pickup truck driven by Kenneth Gunter, 41, of Myrtle Beach.
Van der Kuijl's 2007 PT Cruiser spun around before coming to a stop, according to witnesses. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Gunter's 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling east on NC 211, veered off to the right and overturned.
Gunter was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he taken into surgery. At the time of this report, he was listed in critical condition.
The Highway Patrol says Gunter was not at fault.
