Mills River, NC : Troopers investigate fatal collision near Mills River on Tuesday, september 2, 2014

North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that they are investigating a fatal wreck near Mills River on Tuesday. The accident was reported on Boylston Highway just after 6 p.m. The roadway was shut down while troopers investigated. The victim was identified as Joseph Slater of Mills River, according to the highway patrol. Investigators said Slater was struck head-on by a pickup that crossed the center line, and then he was struck from behind by a car. Troopers said the first head-on accident created a chain reaction crash involving a total of three cars. The truck that crossed the center line and hit Slater ran off the road and rolled.
