Frankfort, KY : Billy R. Stevens, 59, died in a crash involving Salt truck and a car on KY-92 East in Whitley County on Thursday afternoon, January 21, 2016

Kentucky State Police are investigating a crash involving a state salt truck and a car on KY-92 East in Whitley County. It happened just before noon Thursday and shut down the road for several hours.

Investigators say a 2012 Freightliner salt truck was traveling westbound on KY 92 when it crossed the center-line and struck a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero head-on killing the car's driver, Billy R. Stevens, 59, of Williamsburg.

KSP says Stevens was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office. His two passengers Jesse E. Gabbard, 29, and Selena M. Moore, 28, both of Williamsburg, were transported to the Baptist Health Corbin Hospital where they are receiving treatment for their injuries.

Manes was not injured.

a white passenger car was headed away from Williamsburg when it collided with a State Department of Highways truck used to plow and salt roads.

"At this time everything is still under investigation pending investigation from Kentucky State Police and Kentucky vehicle enforcement," said Whitley County coroner Andy Croley.

The roads were wet at the time of the crash, but no snow or ice was visible. It's not known if the truck was laying down salt at the time of the crash.

Croley says the victim was driving the car, and there were two other people in the car, one in the passenger seat and one in the back seat.

WKYT has learned the victim is Billy Ray Stevens, 57, of Williamsburg. The driver of the salt truck was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
