Victoria, TX : Cuero school bus involved in wreck on Friday morning, February 3, 2017
A Cuero school bus carrying five students was struck by a pickup Friday morning on U.S. 87. The students were not injured.
The school bus was traveling north on the highway and was preparing to turn right onto Old Victoria Road at 7 a.m. when the wreck occurred, said Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell.
The pickup, which was towing a trailer, was traveling behind the bus and failed to control its speed, Cockrell said.
The pickup traveled off the right side of the road and struck the left side of the school bus, Cockrell said.
The bus driver was taken to Cuero Regional Hospital for a minor injury.
James Coburn, transportation director for Cuero school district, said the bus will be towed to San Antonio so the damage can be repaired.
No citations were issued at the scene.
DPS urges drivers to stay alert and be aware of school buses and students loading and unloading, Cockrell said.
"Do not text and drive or drive while distracted," he said.
