Montgomery, AL : A Dawson woman died on Sunday, August 27, 2017

A Dawson woman died Sunday when the car in which she was a passenger crashed in DeKalb County, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Kayla Brooke Abney, 22, was killed when the 2011 Toyota Corolla she was in left the roadway and struck a tree. Abney, who was not using a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 26-year-old Albertville woman, was injured and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred at 5:43 p.m. on DeKalb County 405, five miles south of Crossville. Troopers continue to investigate.
