A man was killed and two other people were hospitalized Tuesday night when a car and a motorcycle collided on Southwest 13th Street.
The crash occurred about 6:16 p.m. when the driver of a southbound car, Mary Sowich, 18, attempted to turn left into Bivens Cove apartments at 3301 SW 13th St. and collided with a northbound motorcyclist, according to Gainesville police.
The motorcyclist, 24-year-old Imanuel Lopez, died at the hospital from his injuries.
Gainesville Police Department Lt. Marc Plourde said Tuesday night two others were transported to the hospital but the severity of their injuries was not available.
Officers closed a section of Southwest 13th Street from IHOP to Bivens Cove for several hours Tuesday while they investigated the crash.
Lopez posted to his Facebook page at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday he wanted to “just hop on” his motorcycle and “just go for a long drive for the day” to clear his head, but couldn’t because he had to work, his post says.
Several people commented with messages like “RIP Brother... You’ll trully be missed,” and “RIP to a great person and even a greater brother,” calling Lopez a “good man with a good soul.”
