Hutchinson, KS : Colorado man accused of leaving fatal Kansas crash on Sunday, June 8, 2014
One man was killed, a woman critically injured and another man in jail after a two-car collision at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at Main Street and 11th Avenue.
Hutchinson police Sgt. Brian Hirt reported that a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer was westbound on 11th when it collided with a 1999 Chevy Silverado pickup that was southbound on Main. After the collision, the Silverado continued south until it collided with a parked Chevy Blazer.
The driver of the Silverado, Pedro Perez, 34, of Hutchinson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Trailblazer fled the scene on foot, police said, leaving behind a passenger, Marena Gumber, 28, of Palisade, Colo. She was trapped in the vehicle, Hirt said. After Gumber was freed, she was flown to a Wichita hospital. Hirt said she was in critical condition with a head injury.
Several hours later, the man suspected of being the driver who fled the scene, Homer Alexander Beebe, 28, of Clifton, Colo., was arrested on Sunset Drive in Hutchinson. He is being held on suspicion of failing to report a fatality accident and leaving the scene.
Hirt said the cause of the accident remains under investigation, and it hasn’t been determined whether alcohol was a factor.
