Chippewa Falls, WI : One dead in pick-up vs semi crash on I-94 in Dunn County near Menomonie on Monday, March 13, 2017
A morning crash on Interstate 94 has left a 29-year-old Eau Claire man dead.
The Wisconsin State Patrol reported that the crash took place about 7:45 a.m. Monday at mile marker 51 in Dunn County near Menomonie. The driver of a westbound Ford Ranger pickup lost control and crossed the median into the path of an eastbound semi truck. Unable to avoid a collision, the semi driver struck the pickup on the driver’s side. Both vehicles landed in the median.
The driver of the Ranger died in the crash, while the semi driver, a 65-year-old man from St. Paul, Minn., was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System-Luther in Eau Claire with non-life threatening injuries. The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and Menomonie Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol use is not believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. The names of the drivers are being withheld pending notification of their families.
