Soldotna, AK : Driver cited after pickup crashes and burns in Soldotna on Tuesday night, Nov 17, 2015
Two people escaped unhurt late Tuesday night from a fiery single-vehicle crash in Soldotna that Alaska State Troopers say was caused by the driver traveling too fast on a curve in the road.
A report of the burning truck on K-B Drive, off Kalifornsky Beach Road, first reached troopers at about 11:20 p.m., according to a Wednesday dispatch. Troopers identified the driver as 18-year-old John McCord.
“AST responded and found a white GMC Sierra fully engulfed in flames,” troopers wrote. “Investigation revealed (McCord) was traveling down K-B Drive and could not turn the corner due to his speed. The vehicle slid sideways, then collided with a fence in front of Best Transit Mix and shortly after caught fire.”
Crews with Central Emergency Services responded to extinguish the vehicle fire.
Troopers issued McCord two citations: one for driving too fast for road conditions and the second for having no insurance on the vehicle.
