ST. MARYS, OH : 4-car crash sends St. Marys man to hospital on Wednesday, January, 26th 2018
A St. Marys man was transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital and later to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s with what state police described as non-life threatening injuries following a four-vehicle traffic accident Wednesday evening in Auglaize County.
According to a statement from the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Donnie Hicks, 55, of St. Marys, stopped along U.S. 33 west of Wapakoneta at approximately 6:50 p.m. Wednesday to assist a motorist who was stuck in the median. Hicks had pulled a 2013 Hyundai driven by Tyler Wallace, 23, of Westerville, out of the median and was unhooking a tow strap from the vehicles when Hick’s 2002 Chevy Avalanche was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Dawn Storer, 44, of St. Marys.
The impact pushed Hicks’ vehicle forward, pinning Hicks’ legs between the two vehicles.
The vehicle operated by Storer then continued sliding off the roadway and into the path of a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Alexander Ratliff, 29, of St. Marys. Ratliff attempted to avoid striking the Storer vehicle but the Malibu did strike the Hyundai driven by Wallace.
The only person injured was Hicks, the patrol reported. Assisting at the scene were the Buckland Fire Department and Wapakoneta EMS.
