Manatee County, FL : Jose Cortez, 26, died in a three-car accident on U.S. 41 and 53rd Avenue West on Thursday night, August 4, 2016

Police have identified the Bradenton man who died in a three-car accident Thursday night.

Jose Cortez, 26, was killed at 14th Street West and 53rd Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to reports, a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Hector David Tejada, 17, of Bradenton was southbound on 14th Street West, approaching the intersection with 53rd Avenue. At that point, a northbound white Dodge Charger driven by Vanessa Benavides, 22, of Bradenton apparently made a left turn onto 53rd Avenue West, into the path of Tejada's truck. The two vehicles collided, sending a tire that was in the bed of Tejada's truck airborne and striking the front of a Nissan Titan pickup driven by Ulises Zarate, 32, of Bradenton, that was also northbound in the left turn lane of 14th Street West.

Cortez was a passenger in Benavides' car.

Benavides and two other passengers in her car, Berenice Benavidez, 17, of Bradenton and Ivan Flores, 25, of Sarasota suffered injuries in the accident and were taken to Blake Medical Center.

Tejada and a passenger in his truck, Arturo Palacios Zacarias, 18, of Bradenton suffered minor injuries and were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Zarate and a passenger in his truck, Jose Monsalve, 52, of Sarasota were uninjured in the accident.
