Washington City, UT: Semitruck driver loses control, crashes on I-15 on Tuesday, July 21th 2015

Northbound traffic was impeded on Interstate 15 in Washington City Tuesday morning after a semitruck blew a tire and crashed into a guardrail and concrete barrier.
Around 10 a.m., a man in his mid-40s lost control of his diesel truck when one of the tires blew, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Murphy said. The truck veered left, hit a cement barrier and slid down the guardrail, Murphy said. The truck came to a stop near milepost 12.The truck had visible damage to its left side due to hitting the barrier. The guardrail caused damage to the semi’s trailer, ripping off a couple of the back tires. The portion of the guardrail hit by the truck will need to be replaced, along with a couple of the posts that were knocked out during the incident. The left lane of the freeway was closed for over a hour as responders attended to the accident, which caused traffic to back up.The semitruck had to be towed from the scene.Drowsy or distracted driving may have been a factor in the incident, Murphy said, but the investigation is still ongoing. The driver of the truck reported no injuries, Murphy said, and no other cars or individuals were involved in the accident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by Utah Highway Patrol and may not contain the full scope of findings.
