Fairmont, MN : Mountain Lake woman dies in a crash on Tuesday night, March 7, 2017

A 21-year-old Mountain Lake woman died Tuesday night in an Interstate 90 crash that involved a wrong-way driver and alcohol.

Hannah Elizabeth Stoez was riding in a 2011 Ford Escape operated by Tyler James Schoborg, 19, of Westbrook that was traveling east on I-90. A 2006 Honda CR-V operated by Mark Jason Wendland, 48, of Baltic, S.D., was going west in the eastbound lane and struck the Escape. The crash was reported at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday and took place near milepost 99.

Authorities say that alcohol was detected with Wendland, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Schoborg was transported to St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, for his injuries; he was wearing a seat belt. Stoez, who died in the crash, was not wearing a seat belt.

A 2016 Kenworth Diesel driven by Nathan Stefan Garcia, 29, of Billings, Mont., came upon the crash scene and lightly sideswiped the Honda while swerving to the right. A 2013 Mack 600 operated by Jacob Lynn Oeltjenbruns, 33, of Granada was then struck from behind by the Kenworth. Both semis ended up in the ditch; their drivers were uninjured.
