The driver who was fatally injured when his Toyota 4Runner hit a Mountain Metropolitan Transit bus last month in southeast Colorado Springs has been identified as Brett Buttitta, the El Paso County Coroner's Office said Tuesday.
Buttitta, 48, was making a left-hand turn onto southbound Monica Drive West from East Hancock Expressway shortly before 1 p.m. April 6 when his SUV collided with a bus and crashed into a tree. He died of his injuries Saturday.
According to a Facebook post by his brother, Blair, Buttitta was taken off life support after being in a coma for nearly a month. His brain injuries as a result of the crash were "too severe and extensive to have allowed him a life beyond a hospital bed and feeding tube," the post said.
