Stanford, N.Y : Woman dies when vehicle crashes, overturns in NY creek on Sunday, February 12, 2017

State police say a 27-year-old upstate New York woman has died after her vehicle landed on its roof after crashing into a creek.

Troopers say they responded to a 911 call around 5 p.m. Sunday reporting a vehicle in a stream in the town of Stanford, in northern Dutchess County 50 miles south of Albany.

Troopers and local volunteer firefighters entered the creek and attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle. Tow truck operators arrived on the scene and helped free the driver, who was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

Police say she was pronounced dead at the hospital. Troopers on Monday identified her as Lynette Ruffin of Stanford.

Troopers say her vehicle hit a bridge’s guide rail before falling into the creek.
