10 killed on roads during holiday weekend in Atlanta Georgia
Ten people died in traffic accidents during the Fourth of July travel period, the Georgia State Patrol announced Monday.
The GSP investigated three accidents that resulted in four of the deaths.A 49-year-old Stapleton, Ga., man was killed Thursday in Jefferson County after losing control of his car and flipping it. The GSP said the victim was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol may have been a factor.
A Texas couple died Friday in Haralson County after their motorcycle left the road and hit two trees. A 28-year-old Rossville man was killed Sunday when he lost control of his car, hit a guardrail and then slammed into a tree on Interstate 75 in Catoosa County.
Other fatal crashes were reported in Fulton, Henry, Jones and Putnam counties, and the cities of Atlanta and Carrollton.
In addition to the 10 deaths, GSP troopers made more than 16,600 traffic stops and 300 DUI arrests.
The holiday weekend began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ended at midnight Sunday.
