A Honolulu police officer involved in a crash that injured a motorcyclist has been assigned to desk duty while the incident is investigated.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the crash occurred Wednesday.
Police say a Waikiki patrol officer observed a traffic violation and made a U-turn through a median on Kalakaua Avenue.
His patrol car was struck by a 37-year-old man on a motorcycle.
The motorcycle driver was critically injured. He was taken to a hospital and his status was upgraded to serious after treatment. The officer was not injured.
Police say the officer is a six-year veteran.
