Alligator Alley, FL : One dead, two hurt in three-car crash on I-75 in Collier County on Thursday afternoon, January 22, 2015

One person is dead and three others were taken to the hospital after a crash on I-75 in Alligator Alley.

It happened at around 11:14 a.m. near mile marker 64 in Collier County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, three vehicles were involved in the fatal crash -- including a Nissan, a Kia and a Chevy truck that was towing an empty boat.

The crash report states a Nissan -- driven by 64-year-old Elisabeth Tanjeloff -- was going east on I-75. At the same time, the Kia and truck were traveling west on the interstate.

Tanjeloff lost control of the vehicle and crossed the grass median. The Nissan entered the westbound lanes, and the Kia collided with the vehicle. The truck then rear-ended the Kia.

The collision caused the Kia and the truck to hit a chain-link fence before coming to a complete stop. The truck also struck and broke a power pole that was located in the north grass shoulder.

Tanjeloff was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Kia, identified as 20-year-old Kelsey Cardenal and 22-year-old Aaron Gould, were both flown to Lee Memorial Hospital. The driver of the truck, 24-year-old Sean Doyle, was taken to Naples Community Hospital with serious injuries.

Tanjeloff was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Kia were both flown to Lee Memorial Hospital.

The westbound traffic was closed at I-75 and US-27 due to the extent of the crash and the close proximity of the unstable power pole and power lines. All lanes were reopened at 3:10 p.m.
