Joplin, MO : Three people died and another was seriously injured in a two-car collision on Tuesday, July 4, 2017
Three people died and another was seriously injured in a two-car collision about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday on Route V, 3 miles south of Joplin in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Ronni Ducommun, 32, of Wentzville, driver of one of the vehicles, and passenger Janet Ducommun, 67, of Neosho, were pronounced dead at the scene, as was Alex Ashlin, 18, of Neosho. Ashlin was a passenger in a vehicle driven by McKay Harris, 17, also of Neosho. Harris was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin with serious injuries.
According to the patrol, the westbound Harris vehicle crossed the centerline of the road and collided head-on with the eastbound Ducommun vehicle.
• An 81-year-old Neosho man was injured in a two-vehicle crash about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 49, about 4 miles south of Joplin, according to the state patrol.
James R. Harvel was taken to Mercy Hospital Joplin with minor injuries.
According to the patrol, the northbound Harvel vehicle had slowed for weather conditions when his vehicle was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by Justin Denefrio, 20, of Neosho. Denefrio was not injured.
