Lowell, MA : Two people injured in crash into cruiser at a construction site on Interstate 495 Sunday night, May 1, 2016
State police say a 71-year-old Chelmsford woman and a Chelmsford police officer both suffered minor
injuries when the woman's SUV rear-ended a police cruiser at a construction site on Interstate 495
Sunday night.
Emergency crews were called to the northbound lanes of the interstate at 8 p.m., when the cruiser of
a Chelmsford officer who was working a detail at a construction site south of the Woburn Street exit
was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Trax, according to Trooper Dustin Fitch, a state police spokesman.
Fitch said the officer and 71-year-old both suffered minor injuries, and were taken to the hospital
largely as a precaution.
State police were still at the scene beginning an investigation Sunday night. No charges were
immediately filed.
The crash temporarily closed all but one northbound lane of the highway.
