LOWER SAUCON TWP, PA : 5-year-old killed in I-78 crash on Wednesday, 14th September 2016

A five-year-old boy was killed and several other people were injured in a crash on Interstate 78 in Northampton County early Wednesday morning, and open alcohol containers were found inside the vehicle, according to police. The crash happened just after 1 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-78 at milepost 70.6, between the Hellertown interchange and the exit for Route 33, in Lower Saucon Township.Nadine Walton was driving a Nissan Versa when the car left the highway, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Walton, 54, of Newark, New Jersey, attempted to correct and swerved back across both lanes before striking a guard rail, said police, who noted that the car was then struck by a Kia Forte and a Dodge Caravan. The three passengers in Walton's car Stefany Stephans, 31, of Newark, New Jersey, a five-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl were ejected, police said. Stephens and the two-year-old girl were also injured, but police had no information about the extent. Stephens was later released from the hospital. The drivers of the other two vehicles suffered only minor injuries. State police said they found open alcohol containers in Walton's car. The eastbound lanes of I-78 were closed while police investigated the accident.
