ORANGE COUNTY, FL : One dead and two seriously injured in West Colonial Drive crash on Saturday, January, 6th 2018
A section of busy West Colonial Drive in Orange County was blocked for hours early Saturday morning, as authorities worked a fatal crash. The Florida Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred at 3:07 a.m., at State Road 50 and Hastings Street. The FHP said a Honda Accord, driven by Hiran Rodriguez, 27, of Orlando, was westbound "at a high rate of speed", when an SUV driven by Ashley Duncan, 27, of Orlando, was going east and tried to make a left turn.
The front of Rodriguez' Honda hit the right side of Duncan's Suzuki SUV, causing significant damage to both vehicles. Rodriguez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Orange County firefighters cut the roof off of the SUV to extricate Duncan, and her passenger, Brishauna Malcom, 20, of Tampa. Both women were wearing seat belts, and were taken to ORMC with serious injuries.
The Highway Patrol crash investigation is continuing, and troopers ask that anyone who has information on the crash call the FHP at 407-737-2213.
